Nower Wood - Surrey Wild Life Trust
"The education team at Surrey Wildlife Trust had the privilege of working alongside the fabulous Tree Pirates during the development of our brand new woodland learning centre at Nower Wood. We had a few ideas as we wanted carvings to compliment the building and the fantastic wildlife that live in and around the Ancient Woodland.
Once we gave them our initial ideas they evolved through their amazing creativity to produce breath-taking sculptures that now act as the main focus point for schools and visitors. Using wood we had on site they created a sculpture trail of the leaves and seeds of different species found around the wood, and a magnificent entrance archway carved with butterflies and moths and other flower and plants.
They also created a mini-beast world by carving giant insects and creepy crawlies around where the children hunt for insects and two beloved trees that had to be cut down for safety reasons were transformed into totem carvings with dragonflies, buzzards, bats and other animals.
All our visitors are in awe of their work and its often the most popular talking point about the centre! The guys were great to work with and very open and flexible to all our ideas. They have truly put the icing on the cake with their work for the centre and we will be welcoming them back to do more work soon!" - Aimée Clarke
